pain...?

Question
It seems a silly question to ask, but I need to know.
A couple of weeks ago I lost my hamster, Blondie to a chest infection. She had had it a couple of times before but recovered within a day on both occasions. I took her to the vet, she was given an anti-inflammatory injection, and antibiotics which I was to put in her water. Unfortunately she was not interested in her food/drink, and I took her to the vet again. She said her heart was strong for a hamster of her age (about 2 and a half!) but she was very de-hydrated and there was a lot of fluid on her chest. The vet personally looked after her, gave her an antibiotic and fluids, but the next day I was told she had passed away. I just want to know, how badly was she suffering? I mean, I know when I've had a similar illness that I haven't been in pain as such, its just been uncomfortable? I don't like to think she was really hurting bad, I did do all I could to make her comfortable.
It would put my mind at rest knowing that she wasn't in any great deal of pain.
Thank you

Answer
Hi Becky,

With the fluid on her chest, I believe that Blondie may have felt a little uncomfortable (kind of like we feel when we have a chest cold) but really wasn't in a great deal of pain. I'm sure that the vet did everything she could to make her comfortable as i'm sure you did too. The age of Blondie tells me that you took very good care of her and i'm sure she must have been very happy.

Thank you for your question and so sorry for your loss.
