Hamster Eye Infection

Question
My hamster has some sort of eye infection. Two days ago the area around its eyes were a little red (and seemed a little wet). Today it's eyes are shut. I called my friend who has worked as a vet assistant for two years. He told me that the hamster more than likely has bacteria in her eyes and that it will get worse if I do not do anything about it. I don't have money to take it to a vet, and I have very little to spend on over the counter medications.

Please, do you have any suggestions? Do you know anything about this "eye infection" regarding past experiences? Will my hamster pass away soon? Any information will be GREATLY appreciated.

Thank you.

Answer
The vet tech is completely right. It's an eye infection and the sad part is without medicine from a vet it won't get better and there's nothing that I know of that will make it better. Your hamster probably won't make it without medication from a vet. I'm really sorry though. Good Luck with everything. :-)
