neglecting mother?

Question
my hamster had 8 babies a week and a half ago. now there is only one left. i do not know the cause of their death, but i think the mother ate them. the problem is that the one baby hamster we have left is weak, because the mother doesn't take care of it. she refuses to nuture and feed it.we started feeding it formula specifically made for hamster babies. what else should we do to help the baby survive?

Answer
The chance of a baby hamster surviving without its mother at that age is very slim, however, it has been done before. Feeding it the formula is a great first start. Remember to feed it every 2-3 hours, as this is how often baby hamsters nurse.

The baby must also be kept warm. A heating pad set on low under one end of the cage/tank is one good way of keeping the baby warm. However, make sure that the floor of the cage does not get too warm. You can also set a water bottle, with warm water in it, next to the baby to help give it some warmth.

Hope this helps!
