Question
Hi Heather,
I have a 3 month old Syrian hamster I got 2 weeks ago. He seems settled in fine, but he doesn't chew at all. The only thing he will put in his mouth is food. I know hamsters teeth grow all their lives, and I want to keep them in check. I have tried putting wood and cardboard tubes in, but no avail. Please help!
Sarah

Answer
My hamster does not chew on cardboard or wood sticks either. Instead, he enjoys Vitakraft Raviolos to chew on, as well as his plastic tubing much to my dismay.  Hamsters need hard treats to encourage them to gnaw on things that are good for them, and not plastic or wood. Vitakraft makes alot of good hard hamster treats like carrot slims and raviolos. As long as it is fairly hard, it will make a good gnaw treat.
