Hamster/mouse breeding

Question
Recently I took my hamster to a family gathering, and my brother brought his mouse along.  The mouse is definately a male, and I am now assuming my hamster is a female... They had to be put in a cage together, and the mouse kept chasing the hamster around.  The hamster would freeze and stick his tail in the air... The mouse would climb on the hamster's back and act as if it were trying to mate with her.  The hamster is nearly full grown and the mouse is a good bit smaller than her.  Is it possible they could have mated, and is this safe?  If they did mate, how do I tell if she has gotten pregnant?

Answer

Well it does sound like they did mate, mouse and hamster come from the same type of family so yes could be possible that she is pregnant, but since the mouse is smaller he might not have made contact with the female. If your female starts to get bigger in ten days she is going to have babies. At 16 days she should have her babies. If she does, please notify me on how they turn out, as I have never seen babies from a mouse and a hamster hook-up.
