Question
Hello Kelly,

I work at a pet shop, and out of our hamsters was mauled by all the others. It has wet tail, and was isolated with 2 others with wet tail. In a matter of days, they were picking on his rear and I isolated him. He is scabby and bleeding, and gental area is in very bad condition. They were going to sell him as feed b.c of his missing fur, so I took him home with consent.

I have had many teddy bear hamsters, and handled dwarfs at work, but this is a very bad case. I treat him for wet tail, and wear gloves. all he does is sleep and shakes. he limps around is barely active at all. My vet was going to charge me 50 dollars plus extras... and have already spent my extra cash on my 2 lovebirds and obeste rescued beagle.  What should I do and how should I treat him?

Answer
Hi Lauren,

Well, I know you probably won't like hearing this (no one does), but your hamster should really go to the vet.  Over-the-counter products, like Dri-Tail, are ineffective.  Only a vet can properly treat a hamster with wet tail.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask.
