Question
Joey my hamster is nearly 3 and last weekend he was acting strange and not his usual self. I took him to the vet and she said it was most likely due to a stroke. He was given a steroid injection and i was told that he should pick up within the next few days. He has lost control of his back legs and can't walk all that well. I have noticed in the last few days that under his chin/chest is wettish and sort of sticky. I can't really get a good look to see whats causing it. I read that hamsters when they get older can sometimes drool. Do u think that this could be what is causing it? I was also wondering if it would be best to have him put to sleep or not. He doesnt appear to be in any pain, is eating some food and not really drinking but i cant be sure if he is suffering or not. Please can you give me some of your advice? I would very much appreciate it as i really don't know what i should do. =] thanks

Answer
My hamsters name is Joe too. Drool is the main suspect for why his mouth is sticky and wet, it can be attributed to his stroke, he may have lost feelings or control of part of his mouth. Just let him live out the rest of his days since he appears in no pain.
