Old, wobbly hamster - please help!

Question
I have a 3 year-old hamster who just recently started developing some problems...can you help?  One - his eyes are sticky and sometimes stay shut after he wakes up for up to 1/2 hour. I have been wiping them with a warm cloth to help open them. Two - for two days, he has had trouble walking.  He will look like he's crawling out of his wooden house, and he'll just wobble all over the place, sometimes falling completely on his side. He is no longer running on his wheel. Could have have a broken bone? Would he be squealing in pain if he did?  Third - his coat has been looking a little raggedy and gray, and he seems to have a slight green coloring around his bum. I know he is old and probably and feeble, but is there anything I can do?  Thank you!!!

Answer
it sounds like there are a lot of problems going on with him. He more than likely has an intestinal bacterial infection. That is what is causing the green color around his bum, is it also wet looking as well? It could also cause problems with his eyes as well as wobbling. A lot of times when hamsters get sick they will wobble a lot and fall because they are weak. An ear infection will also cause them to loose their balance as well. His coat looking grey and dull means that he is very ill and is a sign of an illness. You should take him to a vet as soon as possible to get some antibiotics.
