Question
hi, we bred our 2 "black bear" hamsters and she had approx. 14 pups that are 2 weeks old. half of the litter is black, half either white or blondish. she only mated with the black male, how can she have anything but black offspring?

Answer
Simple biology, the mothers or fathers parents may have been a cream blonde color, so that the offspring have that trait in them, but do not show it. It's likely that one of your black bears had a parent that was blonde, you don't need 2 black bears to make more, just one. If 2 of the blonde pups mated they could produce a black bear, simply because they carry the genes. Just like even if your parents both have brown eyes, if either of your grandparents or greatgrandparents had hazel, blue, or green, you can still get an eye color other then brown.
