eye infection

Question
My dwarf hamster got out of his cage last week, and when I found him,his left eye was weeping, almost like he got something in it. I did a lot of research and did what most websites said to do:take a cotton swab, wet it with warm water, and gently wipe his eye. It looked better immediately, but a few days later, he started to lose fur around his eye develope puss underneath it and I knew it was infected. My parents think it's not necesary to take him to the vet. They also said to put Neosporin around it, but whenever I try to he moves his head and it goes on his whiskers. He's acting normal-eating,drinking,climbing, excercising-does'nt really seem to be bothered by it.How can I help him?

Answer
Hi Devon,

if you can't take him to the vets, just keep cleaning his eyes, very very gently, just the way you have been. You can keep the infection at a managable level until you can save up for the vets. He will probably need antibiotics, to get rid of the infection for good. you can only get these from a vet I'm afraid.

Best of luck with this and Thank you for your question.
