Gerbil lump on stomach - bleeding

21 13:26:51

Question
We have a gerbil that is just over 2 years old and she recently developed a lump in the direct middle of her stomach (half way between nose and rear and half way between either side, right in an area where she has had never had any hair (bear with me as this is the first gerbil we've had). I don't know if it is normal for gerbils to have a bare spot there. Anywho... This lump I would guesstimate is half a centimeter in diameter and a half a centimeter tall. It recently started bleeding as I could see blood on her bedding. I put neosporin on it for the time being to help it heal in the event that it was just a wound.

Thanks very much for your help!

Joe

Answer
Hello, there are a few possible things that could be going on. One is that it's just a regular sore that has started bleeding and will soon go away, another one is that it could be a little tumor that may not be serious at all. Since it burst I would like to say that it was just a bump and there shouldn't be much to worry about since it popped. Monitor her stomach to make sure that it doesn't get bigger, if she starts bloating as well take her to a vet to get looked at. This is the best advice I can give you because bumps or lumps in animals are always a mystery.
