Question
We got two male dwarf hamsters a month ago. The came from the same cage and were used to each other. Recently the smaller one has fur missing on his back. Today we noticed a little blood on his fur. What should we do to stop the fighting?

Answer
Dear Tonya,
thank you for your question.
You need to separate the hamsters as soon as possible, they won't stop fighting and may seriously hurt or even kill each other. At the very least, living together is very stressful for them.
Winter White dwarf hamsters and Campbells are social, but in the wild they live as pairs or in small family groups, they don't live with adults of the same sex and they have huge territories. In captivity, even pairs who have mated and raised babies may suddenly fight, pairs of the same sex almost always do sooner or later even when they are from the same litter.
I hope I was of some help to you
