Question
Thanks for responding so quickly.
Its not on his other side an is above his left leg not right above id say maybe mid way.
He's had no diareeah (sp) or constipation ,he appears to be very active and lively an as far as im aware doesnt huddle in corners. He's eating fine. Is it a scent gland event though it isnt on the other side? When he licks it it doesnt have a odeor or anything like that. i appreciate your help.

I have a siberian(sp) male hamster hes only about 4months old.But a few weeks back i noticed what looks like a birthmark, its on his side an its hidden in his fur but his fur there is a much lighter brown. Its not raised to form a lump but when u run ur finger over it it feels raised. Its red/brown in colours but i can hardly see what it is due to fur being over it.It doesn't appear to hurt him or cause him any pain, but i have noticed it wet a few times maybe he's licking it?Can you maybe tell me if i should worry an take him to a vet?

Hello! How are you? May I ask a few questions first? Where on his side is it? Is it right above his hind leg? If so then it's probably his scent gland. No need to worry. They all have that. Check his other side for it. If you see it on the other side you're fine. If you are noticing that he's not eating normal and constantly huddled in a corner and feeling cold then take him to the vet. More than likely since you were able to rub it and touch it he's probably fine. Good luck though and keep me posted. :-)

Answer
hmmm... to me it could be a birthmark or just a lump. If he's doing fine and you don't notice it getting any worse, i just say it's probably just a birthmark or just his scent gland. Some animals are born with a lump on them, it doesn't do anything to them or harm them at all. Some just have it. Watch it and if it starts to get worse or anything like that then take him to a vet. :-) Good luck though but i don't think there's anything to worry about.
