Question
I recently had my good freind who has had hamsters for years and myself and we took out my chinese dwarf hamster and underneath its tail there are two red balls appearing out of a sack, i dont know what this is but sometimes they can slightly go in and come back out. My hamster seems fine but recently i changed from a water bowl to a water bottle if this matters. Whats Wrong? and if he has to go to a vet how can i go about this because i never have before. Thanks

Answer
Hi Joe,

Having a water bowl or bottle does not really matter. With the two red balls appearing out of a sack, this could just be his testicles, an abscess or testicular tumors. Without being able to actually see them it is very hard to tell.
Abscesses usually are a result from a cut or bite that has been overlooked and not properly cleaned (which given the place, would not be hard to over look). Try looking over the red lumps to see if there are any signs of a cut or bite mark. If there is, a trip to the vet is needed. I would suggest calling your local vet/s to see if they treat hamsters (this may not be an easy task, as I have found out through other people on here that a lot of vets do not treat hamster because they are considered a rodent).

In testicular tumors, they are firm and enlarged, so I really don't think it is this.
