Question
my six week old female hamster has bleeding paws (her back paws) there was blood on her wheel, we thought she over exercised and took away her wheel, we plan to limit her access to it. but now there is also vaginal bleeding and blood in her urine. i have hears that hamsters do not have mensural cycles but blood is clearly visible. is this very abnormal? does she need to see a vet?

Answer
Hi Ellie,

Yes, this is abnormal. Is she drinking a lot of water?  It could be a urinary tract infection. The first sign of this is the hamster will drink a lot of water and the second sign is blood in the urine. The hamster may also squeal while urinating. I would suggest that your hamster be seen by a vet.
