Hampster Hicups?

21 13:32:35

Question
I have two questions.  Our hampster is about 1 year old (we found her outside).  She has always been healthy.  First question:  have noticed for about three weeks now that one of her eyes is stuck together when she first wakes up.  Slowly, her eye seems to stay stuck together longer.  Now I wipe it with a damp kleenex to help open it up.  You think it could be an infection and she needs an antibiotic?  By the way I have recently introduced some Timothy Healthy Hay in one corner (her usual bedding is Aspen bedding).

Second question:  Sometimes when we pick her up she starts hicupping (or that is what it sounds like).  She stops within about a minute.

Every other day or so I take a nap for about 30 minutes and let my hampster sleep under my shirt.  She never qets squashed because I prop the pillow just right.  She seems to love it.  Do you think her eye problem could be from my skin?

One more thing.  Her teeth seem so long.  Do they ever need to be trimmed.  I have bought too many things to list for her to chew on, but she only likes the cage.  She has the life of Riley.  Two wheels, an aquarium with a four floor cage on top, tunnels galore, two houses, and we switch everything around every week.  Is this too much?

Sorry, got kinda carried away with the questions.

Thank you,

Faye and Sean

Answer
Sounds like a very happy and healthy hamster!!

I think the eye problem could be due to allergies to the hay!! Try a week without the hay, see if the problem clears up..if not.an antibiodic may be needed

I don't know what would cause her to hiccup...

I don't think your skin is causing the eye problems!!

do you ever give her carrots?? they would be good for wearing down teeth! IF she isn't chewing...maybe you should take her for a vet visit,...to check the teeth!!
