my hamsters teeth and claws are too long!

Question
I have had my hamster for about two and a half years now and he's getting old.  I think he may need something doing about his teeth and claws because they are very long and I dont want them to cause him any discomfort. What do you recommend?

Kelly.

Answer
Hi Kelly,

You can try clipping your hamster's nails.  Use a small fingernail clipper, and have someone hold your hamster while you clip the nails.  Cut only the tips to avoid causing your hamster's nail bed to bleed.  If you're uncomfortable clipping your hamster's nails yourself, then you can take him to a vet.  Since you need to get your hamster's teeth trimmed as well, I would advise you to take him to a vet, who can perform both tasks quickly and efficiently.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask.
