my pregnant hamster

hi,
i am 99% sure my hamster is pregnant. she has been creating a nest,storing food and getting fat. i was wondering if there was any preparation left to do. i've removed the wheel, cleaned the cage, ad made sure she is well fed and watered. please give me any other information i need.

Hi Harper,

it sounds as if you have done everything you can to prepare for the birth - your female will do everything else which needs to be done to care for the babies.

But please remember that your hamster can only be pregnant if she has been in contact with a male in the last 30 days, and even if she has, it doesnt mean she is definately pregnant!

'creating a nest,storing food and getting fat' does not mean she is definately pregnant either - all of this could apply to any hamster which is not pregnant too!

You may need the help of a vet incase anything goes wrong so it is best to ring around now before the birth to make sure you can get a vet to visit you if you need him to.

If everything goes well with the birth then you should not disturb the cage at all for the first two weeks and shouldnt clean the cage out until the babies are three weeks old.
