-----Question-----
Hi i have just brought a pair of roborovski hamsters and i would like to know what you think about leaving the male in after the female has given birth as some people say you should and some say that you shouldn't could you please tell me what is best.
-----Answer-----
Hi Tanya,

I believe that it is best to remove the male from the cage once the female has given birth. I believe this only because the female comes right back into heat after she has given birth which means that she could give birth again in 18 days and I feel that is to much too soon.

Answer
Hello again Tanya,

There is always a chance that the Male could kill the babies. The mother may kill her babies if she feels threatened or feels her babies are in danger. So I feel that it is best to remove the Male.
On the sawdust, From what I have read, sawdust is fine to use as long as it is not the real fine sawdust, as this could cause health problems. And scented sawdust is ok to use, but if you notice any difference in your hamsters, then I would discontinue using it.
I know some things with a scent, like cedar or pine bedding, are bad for hamsters.
