Question
My dwarf hamster is scratching ALOT! but it doesn't have any inflamed or red spots... it scratches around it's rib area... what should I do?

Answer
hi shelby,

it sounds like your hamster may have mites. first you need to check if this is the case by looking at his fur, part the fur over his body and you should see little black dots. if you find them, go to your nearest pet store and by hamster mite spray, if you can't find it ask the shop assistant to get it for you. when you get home, clean out his cage throughly with anti-bacterial small cage spray (which you can also get at the pet store with the mite spray), change his bedding, sawdust and wash his toys in hot water. then spray your hamster all over with the mite spray, being careful to avoid his eyes, nose and mouth. make sure you get around his tail, belly, sides and behind his ears.

best of luck, and if the problem keeps ocurring, please get back to me. thank you for your question :)
