hamster sleeping too much

is it normal for my hamster to sleep all day and all night?

Hi Valerie,

While it's normal for a hamster to sleep all day, it's not normal for him to sleep all night, or the majority of the night.  Your hamster is either very old (2 1/2 + years) or he is lethargic, which is a sign of several illnesses.  You should take your hamster to the vet, who can give you a complete diagnosis and treatment.
