Question
My gerbils are lying on top of each other, and one of them is starting to look pregnant. What do I do!

Answer
Dear Lauren,
thank you for your question.
If your really have a male and a female, you need to separate them as soon as possible. They can mate again directly after the female gave birth and you'll end up with a lot of babies.
The female needs extra animal protein now and lots of bedding to build a nest. The babies must be separated into males and females when they are about 33-35 days old. The females should stay with their mother for at least 8, better 10 weeks. The males can be slowly introduced to their father and should stay with him five more weeks, too.
I hope I was of some help to you
Jennifer
