Whats wrong with my hamster?

Question
We got our hamster Holly about 2 weeks ago (at 9 weeks old).  She took a few
days to tame but after that she has been just great coming out her cage in
the evenings willingly and eating normal.
We provide her with fresh water and food every day so all is well in that
department.
However, just today she has suddenly started acting VERY nervous.  Unable to
move a few steps with seriously shaking and just seemingly very afraid.  In
my hands she is fine but when put on any surface she has all of a sudden
became very scared.
She definitely hasn't been knocked or fallen or anything like that so I'm just
not sure what is wrong?
Can you offer me any advice?
Many thanks,
Laura

Answer
Hi Laura,

the only time i have seen this happen with any of my hamsters is if they are too cold or if they have been injured - either by a fall or by another hamster.

She might even had been exposed to some kind of cleaning substance without you knowing it and she may be allergic to it - could you have sprayed something in the room? Maybe furniture polish, air freshener, cleaning fluid??

If she is still not getting any better then i think you should take her to the vets - just to be on he safe side.

Kind Regards,

Tammy
