Hamster boil

I have 2 hamsters, over the last few days one of the has developed a large boil like area near it's tail. The area is close to it's anus it is raise red with a purple head. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Misty,

    This sounds like an abscess (usually caused by a cut or bite that has been over looked or not properly cleaned). Generally a trip to the vet is needed. Where they will lance it and then drain it. The vet may also prescribe an antibiotic for a time while the wound heals.
