QUESTION: I have 2 hamsters.I have 1 male and 1 female.They're about a month old.They have been together for about 2 and a half weeks now.The female's stomach looks kind of big now,but I don't know if it is pregnant.Please answer as soon as as possible.

    One of the best ways to tell if a Dwarf hamster is pregnant, is if she becomes really fat within a couple of days. When this happens and she is pregnant, you can expect the babies in 2-7 days and it is best to remove the male at this time too. This is because the female will come right back into heat after giving birth.
    Your hamster is very young and it is possible that if she is pregnant, she may reject or eat them. A dwarf hamster should be at least 3 months old before having babies.
    The cage should be cleaned and the wheel should be removed.
   If she does have babies, you will need to start feeding her hard boiled egg and diced carrots. This will give her the extra protein she needs to help raise her babies. The babies nor the nest should be touched until the babies are 2 weeks old. This is when it is safe to handle the babies for a short period of time and the cage can be cleaned.
    At 19 days old, the babies will be weaned. At this time it is best to separate the them. Put the girls with Mom and the boys with dad. This will keep everyone happy.
