Question
I have another question I forgot to ask last time.

After I got Mufasa, I noticed that he had red eyes.  This was especially weird because I always thought only hamsters with all white fur had red eyes (Mufasa has no white except for his belly, and the rest is golden colored, hence the name Mufasa)

I never thought having red eyes meant their eyes were any different than that of other hamsters.  But I notice that when he gets up and moves around, he's reluctant to open his eyes.  When I first saw this I was un-nerved with the thought that maybe he couldn't open them, but after a while he did.

Does having red eyes make them more sensitive to light?  I figure he might be reluctant to open his eyes because he can't stand the light.  If that is true, what should I do?

Answer
Hey, Trevor.
It's normal for a hamster like Mufasa to have red eyes, and to answer your question.. no, it doesn't make them more sensitive to light.  Your hamster probably did that because he was sleepy, so unless it happens quite often, there's nothing to worry about.  Also, remember that hamsters can only see about 6 inches in front of them, so their vision is not that important to them.  They rely on their sense of smell, taste, and hearing much more.

Hope that helps.
