HELP, CAME HOME & FOUND MOM GOT OUT OF CAGE LEAVING 7 12 DAY OLDS. HOW DO I FEED THEM. IT IS TOO LATE TO CALL VET SO CAN YOU LEND A HAND

You asked whether a hamster mother would really leave her babies. In my experience hamsters will take the chance to leave their cage whenever they can and maybe she can't find her way back. But I can imagine that she was overwhelmed by the "responsibility" and took the chance to get away from them, especially if the mother is young and didn't have babies before. They are known to eat their young sometimes, too.
Please keep me updated on the babies, I really hope they all make it :)
