My New Gerbils

Question
i'm not sure what type of shavings it is. i was given a large bag when i bought the tank it just says woodshavings it was bought from pets at home.
So do you think that this kind of wood shavings is safe? as i don't want my new friends to come to any harm.

Hi i bought two gerbils today for the very first time they seem very happy in there new home but i have noticed the one keeps eating the sawdust is this harmful to them? they also have two food bowls in there but they keep covering it with the sawdust is this behaviour normal?

Hello, what type of shavings do you use? If you are using aspen shavings than it's for them to chew and burry their food. That is normal animal behavior. As long as the aspen shavings are safe than it's fine. Any other type of wood shavings I would not recommend.

Hello, well I think the shavings will be fine then. Was it in a black bag?? If so I think that's regular aspen bedding that's perfectly safe for animals. As long as you don't smell a pine or ceder smell they should be fine. :) Gerbils love to chew on wood, if you give them cherry wood sticks or something they will go nuts and chew them up. You can find that at any pet store as well or if you have any fruit trees in your yard you can take some branches from them and use them too.
