can a hamster catch wet tail?

HI.
i have just got a hamster and my friend who had a hamster gave me all of her things like a ball but what i am worried about is her hamster died of wet tail and im scared mine will get it if i put it in the ball even though i have disinfected it. is wet tail catching?

also how can you sex a hamster?

 It can be caught, however i have never heard of a hamster catching it from a ball. As long as you disinfected the ball, it should be fine. However, in the rare case that he does get wet tail, as long as you medicate him right away, he'll be fine. As for sexing, if you turn your hammie over, if there is a large "bump" near his tail then it is a boy, if there is nothing there, then its a girl. Good luck!
