Gash and Gerbils Stomach

Question
Thanks for the tips. I gave my gerbil the neosporin but he keeps licking and picking it off. The other gerbil in the cage is also trying to lick it off. Is this normal, or do we need to try something else? We're going out to get the anti-itch spray later today so maybe that will help.

Question -
Lately, I have seen a gash on one my gerbil's stomach. I don't know when or how he got it but it seemed to be doing fine and it wasn't bleeding. But he keeps picking at it and is making it bleeed.

I don't know if him and my other gerbil had a fight (they're best of buds though). I want to know if this is serious and would like to know what to do.

Hello, a gash on his stomach. Hmmmm the best thing to do is to use neosporin on it. That will help keep the infection down if anything develops from him picking at it. It is probably itching him and that's why he's picking at it. You can spray some anti-itch spray on him to help stop it itching. You can find it in the dog or cat area of a petstore. Good luck and keep me posted.

Answer
hmmmm... seems that they like the taste of it. Well I really think he is doing everything that he should be doing. The licking will help him keep it clean. the Neosporin is to try to help it heal as fast as possible. It won't hurt them if he keeps eating it. I think he's picking at it though b/c it itches. Grannick's bitter apple spray can sometimes help animals not lick wounds. *puts hand to head* why didn't i think of the bitter apple the first time! Gosh, that's what people use on dogs and cats to help them not scratch at their wounds. Hmmm. He should heal up fine. If it's not getting worse than he will probably heal up on his own. I know someone whu used styptic powder to help the healing as well. *picks brain* that's all i can think of. Keep me posted on your gerbil does.
