Question
I have am awesome hamster Named Gizmo who really is the love of my life.
So sad i know... A couple months ago she had a front toe that was swollen
and red, but didn't seem to inhibit her from her daily activities. On one
occasion i noticed a small scab on the end near her nail. upon touching it to
see if i could get a reaction out of her, to see if it hurt, both the scab and her
nail came off. No bleeding occurred and in the next three or so days the
swelling went away. Yesterday when i took her out to play i noticed that her
nail was growing back in and had caused a little swelling but nothing major.
BUT on her back foot she now has a toe that is extremely swollen and red.
Although again she seems to go about her daily activities without any
implication of pain i am concerned that there maybe something wrong that
would cause her toes to randomly turn red and swell. (I hadn't clipped her
nails in at least 3 weeks prior to yesterdays findings)
Thank you for your time!!

Sincerely,
Jakki & Gizzy

Answer
it sounds like she may be having poor circulation to her toes. How old is your hamster?? I would really consider taking your hamster to a vet to get her toes looked at to make sure that she also isn't having skin problems that could cause swelling.
Since this is the second time that it has happaned is there anything in the cage that she could get her feet caught on?
