Length of hamster teeth, hair length, and resting

Question
First of all, I just got my hamster. He was a Christmas present from my younger sister and she said that the person at the pet store says he's about two months old. He seems to be doing great, but two things about him are worrying me and the other I'm just curious about. I'll ask first about what I'm curious about: he has long tufts of hair sticking out sort of on the sides of his back legs. Like, it looks weird! And it looks like those are his legs. Then he has this one little section of hair on his side that's extremely long, too. Is this normal? I'm pretty certain I could just trim it, but is it NORMAL? That's what I don't get.

What's bothering me is his teeth length and after he runs for a while on his wheel. I've caught a glimpse of his bottom teeth when he yawned and then seem EXTREMELY long. Like, if I saw them correctly, they reached REALLY far back into his mouth. They must have reached two-thirds of the way back into his mouth! Does he need his bottom teeth trimmed? Does it hurt the hamster to get his teeth trimmed, like, say, with a vet doing it? How do the teeth get trimmed? And how much do you estimate it would cost to take him to the vet and get his teeth trimmed, along with a check-up to see if he's healthy and all's well? The other thing that worries me is that he runs on his wheel happily, but right afterwards, he lays down wherever in his cage for a little bit and seems to rest. He does this like, every time after he runs on his wheel. Is that normal? Is he just tired?

And I don't really know how this works, but do you e-mail the answers to my questions to me? That'd be great. But I don't know what you do.

Answer
You might have a long hair hamster, I've owned one and they make great pets. You can brush his hair with a toothbrush to keep it looking nice. Hamsters all have long teeth, which they keep from growing out of control by chewing on things. Give your hamster hard treats for him to chew on, like vitakraft Raviolos. If you don't offer chew treats, the hamster will gnaw on anything in the cage, which could be hazardous, or just noisy and irritating. The long teeth won't be a problem unless you notice that he can't eat, but by that time, the teeth would be poking out of his mouth or he would just look funny. I don't think your hamster is anwhere near that point yet. Vets can trim teeth and toenails if you really feel it's necissary. I used to trim teeth myself, but I wouldn't recomend it, if the teeth are cut crooked the hamsters mouth will get cut. Hamsters sleep durring the day, so its not uncommon to catch them napping after daily activities, so there is no problem there.
