Question
hello bryan im courtney  i just put my hamster and my other hamster together for about 15 to 20 minutes, so does that mean  she is pregnant?  also is it ok if we keep them in the same cage while she is pregnant for the 20 days or so?. How many weeks will it take for her to have the babies? is there anything special i will have to feed her during this time? and estamate if they are both teddy bear hamsters how long will it take for her to have her babies?. if you could answer thoses questions that would be greatly apprecated thank you ~courtney~

Answer
Hey, Courtney.
I can't tell you if she's pregnant or not unless I had witnessed the two hamsters together.  However, if you see any signs of pregnancy (especially if u can tell her abdomen is swelling after about a week and if you notice that she starts building nests) then she probably is.

It would be ok to keep the two hamsters together while she is pregnant as long they don't fight with each other.. so keep a close eye on them to make sure this doesn't happen.  Also, keep in mind that if she's not pregnant now, and you keep a male and a female hamster together that long, she's gonna end up pregnant.. so don't do this unless that's what you really want.

If they are both teddy bear hamsters, and if she's pregnant, it will take her 16-18 days until she has the babies.  There is nothing special you have to feed her so just continue to give her regular hamster food.  After she has her babies though, you can give her small pieces of bread soaked in milk.  Use those just as treats if you can but make sure you keep feeding her regular hamster food.

Also, if she does have babies, just remember the most important thing is:
-don't touch the babies or the mom or clean the cage until they are at least 14 days old.

Hope that helps.  If you have any more questions and/or want any more info on anything, feel free to ask.

Good luck with your hamsters and best wishes to all of you.
