chewing bars

Question
My young Syrian hamster bites on her metal bars alot and shes developed a red sore under her chin. I handle her every day and shes got lots of toys and wood chews in her cage, is there anything you recommend i do as i'm worried she is hurting herself.

Unfortunately this is just hamster behavior.  You can try switching to a glass or plastic cage.  Another alternative is to rub the bars with lemon juice or hot sauce to deter her from chewing.  Also, try switching up her chew toys as hamsters can be picky.  Put a little antibiotic ointment (neosporin) on the spot on her chin to help it heal faster.
