Picking up my Hamster

Question
I have had my hamster General Maximus, a male black bear, for about a week. I have yet to be able to pick him up, I tried the whole let him walk on your hand, but he reaches the food before he gets all the way onto my hand. I tried to just put my hand in and let him smell it and he bit me, hard. After i stopped the bleeding I have tried again, but now, I am sad to say I am a little gun shy. Do you have any advice on the best way to pick him up? Thank you kindly.

Answer
What you are doing is good, I guess pretty much the only thing you can do is put the treat farther up on your hand, just enough so he has to put all four of his paws on your hand. If he reaches to far, put the treat on your wrist or arm. or, hold the treat with one hand over your hand, so he will walk after it, move your treat hand farther and farther until he is completely on your hand, then you can cup the treat hand over him, dropping the treat on your hand so he can eat it as you move your hand.
I know I may be sorta confusing, sorry! I tried to explain it the best I could! Hope all goes well.
