Question
Hi Jedediah. I have wondered about making my dwarf hamsters food (I read your previous answer about food) but when I look at the canary seed and other bird seeds they all say that they have added nutrients for birds. Are these added vitamins safe for hamsters or is there a different seed I should be looking for?? I've wondered this for a while. Thanks for your time. KJ

Answer
Dear KJ,
thank you for your question.
I would look for a brand that has no added vitamins. I can't recommend a brand, though, since I'm not familiar with most US/UK brands. It seems that online shops who offer seeds for wild birds have mixes that don't have any vitamins added to them, for example http://www.ebirdseed.com
I have no experience with that company, I just turned them up during a Google search and this product for example would be suitable for making dwarf hamster food, although I would prefer one without sunflower seeds:

I hope I was of some help to you
