Missing Fur on tail?

Hi,
I currently have 4 male gerbils in a very large glass habitat i have noticed that lately 3 of them have fur missing from their tales. They have bald patches all down their tales. Do you know what may be causing this??
How can i help them?

Hi Debbie

The first thing that comes to mind is that they are fighting.  Have you noticed any squabbles?  Apart from their tails, what is the rest of their fur like?  It might be worth examining them to check there are no teeth marks on any of them.  Usually if they get mites etc. it is a more general itching and fur loss, rather than just their tails.

If there is nothing obvious and they are not fighting, I would suggest you monitor the situation and if the fur loss gets any worse, then get them to a vet to be examined.
