Question
QUESTION: Hi Tammy it wouldnt let me do anymore follow up questions, I was wondering what we should do, there is only 1 female and the males are being really aggressive towards her. What should  we do.

ANSWER: Hi Jenna,

are they fetching blood?  Is there alot of squeeling?  How long does it go on for? How many Males are there?

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: no, but the other day the females anus was really red, yes there is a lot of squeeling. It goes on until we move them apart and then it goes on several times a day, there are 2 males in there with her right now.

ANSWER: Hi Jenna,

i really dont understand why these babies seem to be so aggressive towards each other!

Did you breed them on purpose or was it an accident?

Are the parents related?

It seems like the only option you have is to separate the female from the males.

I am really sorry you are having so many problems.

Please let me know if you need any more info.

Kind Regards,

Tammy

QUESTION: When we bought the mother, she was already pregnant, we bought her from petsmart about 2 weeks before they were born. I dont know if they are related or not the petstore didnt tell us. What is the best way to get them to learn how to drink out of the waterbottle? I was also wondering if the glue stuff that is in aquariums along the edges would hurt the hamsters if they eat it? it seems like one of them was chewing on it but spit it out. Thanks alot for the info.!

Answer
Hi Jenna,

i understand a little more now.

If the Male and Female hamsters were in the same cage at the shop then they were probably from the same litter - and that is probably why they are so aggressive!

The store should be shut down!  they shouldnt be keeping hamsters in mixed sex groups!

Anyway, back to your questions.

To get them to drink out of the water bottle just place a shallow dish of water underneath the water bottle and fill it with water - when it gets empty the babies should still look in the same place for the water and should find the bottle easy - but just keep an eye on them to make sure they do find it.

I keep my hamsters in glass aquariums and they do sometimes nibble on the silicone which holds it together - but i dont think they actually eat it - so i dont think it will harm them.

Kind Regards,

Tammy
