Question
I have a small dwarf hamster named Furby - he's been my little buddie for 2 years now!  Recently he has developed some hair loss which I thought was caused by the corn cob bedding being too rough - I changed the bedding - gave him a gentle bath - dried him off - and also notice a lump on his left side - I thought this was part of the skin condition and thought it just may be some swelling - the lump is getting larger and his skin condition doesn't seem to be getting better - does he have cancer?  I want to to take him to the vet but my husband suggested that since they don't live long that I shouldn't worry to much about it, but I love my Furby!

Answer
hi shell,

this is either a tumor, abscess or infection caused by skin irritation through excessive scratching. only a vet can give you the actual cause. and you should take him because vet bills are all part of the expense of having a pet. also if ur husband is really stamping his foot down on this one lol, just make, what is probably his last few months the comfiest and most spoiled last months of his life. when he draws nearer to the hamster heaven, keep handling to a minimum, just let him know your still around by talking to him softly and giving him treats.

good luck with this and thank you for your question. let me know how you get on.

Joanne :)
