Keeping cool in the summer!

i was just wondering if there is anything i can do/give to my hamster to help keep him cool in the summer. he seems restless in the hot weather and digs alot during the day. hope you can help.

Hi Sarah,

If you can, try to keep your home, or at least your room, at a comfortable temperature.  If necessary, you can place a small fan (on the low or medium setting) on the other end of the room.  (Don't place the fan close to the cage, as this may be too drafty for the hamster.)  Also, make sure your hamster's cage is well ventilated.  If you have an aquarium, have a fully-ventilated top.  If you have an all-plastic cage, such as many cages by S.A.M. or Habitrail, drill a few small, clean (not ragged) holes into the top, and any little areas which aren't well-ventilated.  (Avoid all-wire cages, however, which are too drafty.)
