Question
Hi Kelly!

Is a S.A.M cage good for 2 hamsters that get along?
(their both males and dwarf hams.) do you think one will go
down a tube and the other one will climb up and get stuck?
i realy dont think that'll happen but in case it does what should i
do?
is it a good idea?
it should be, i mean not all of a sudden they'll just go at the
same time!?!? theres more than one tube so there not gonna
randomly follow the other!
waht do you recommend?
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
and both of my hamsters scratch ALOT!!
and one that sleeps mostly, when it moves it squeks like in pain,
or  its just  a lazyness anger thing, but do you think they have
mites?
hope NOT!!!
i checked the fur and i dont see and mites!?!?!?!?
and they eat, drink, sleep, play, and dig as if they were normal,
but they only scratch like 3 times a day, i dont have cedar or
pine bedding so not to worry!! is it allergic to me?!?!?!?
if it is omg!!!!!!!!
but anyways im gonna try to get carefresh bedding and if it still
scratches, i'll let you know!!

THANKS I HOPE ALLL GOES WELL!!

Answer
Hi Susie,

Yes, a S.A.M cage should be fine for two male dwarf hamsters.  Just make sure that there is plenty of airflow throughout the cage.  S.A.M cages have a tendency to be all-plastic, and you may need to drill very small, clean holes in the top of the cage.

They shouldn't get stuck in a tube.  If one is coming down the tube, and the other is coming up, the dominant hamster will make the other one back up so he can get through :)  My gerbils frequently did this, and no one ever got stuck.

You can't always see mites.  To be on the safe side, buy anti-mite spray for small animals from the pet store.  Spray the hamsters' bodies, making sure to shield their heads while you're spraying.  Then, clean the cage and spray the anti-mite spray in it.

Also, make sure your hamsters' cage isn't in a drafty area, such as beside a window or underneath an air conditioning vent.

And, your hamsters may be scratching as they clean.  All hamsters do this; they scratch, and then they bring their foot to their mouth.

Have a great day!

If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask.
