Question
i have a syrian hamster and she is about 2 now, she has sores on her skin and almost no hair and she is all dry and flakey now, it started in febuary and i took her to the vet thinking it was mites but they said they found nothing, they gave me so med to give to her and she started growing her hair and then when it was finished she got back to her skin problems almost instantly. now she sleeps all the time, she eats though, those are signs of old age right? but now, i noticed he feet have sores and the doesn't walk on all four, she walks on her tippy toes i guess and it's hard for her to come down the stairs, i saw the article with swollen feet but i don't know how that could be because she doesn't do anything and i took out her wheel a long time ago? I have a bar cage.

Answer
Hi Stephanie,

Yes, sleeping all the time and hair loss is signs of old age. It sounds like she may have some type of skin disease. Since the medication the vet gave you before helped her, I would suggest calling the vet again to see if you could get some more for her. I would also suggest putting her in a one level cage. This will save on her feet.
