How far do hamsters travel in their wheels in miles?

In the wild hamsters can travel as far as 5 miles a night in search of food.  I don't know for sure how far they can travel in their wheels (although I'm sure someone has done some research into this) but it is vital that they have a wheel that is the right size so that they can get some exercise.
