hamster sleeping on his belly

Question
Hi
We bought our hamster last Sunday, today (Friday) we changed the bedding in his cage for the first time since his arrival. He's been acting all excited after we put him back in it, then suddenly he dropped in the corner (without even building his nest) and fell asleep on his stomach, all streched out. He didn't curl up in a ball, but looked more like a dog sleeping on his belly. After a while he woke up, started playing for some time, then fell asleep again in the same position. What's happening? Was he just sleeping off the stress of cage cleaning? Or did he get confused because his old nest was gone?
Thanks for your answer
Kate

Answer

He's probably all mixed up in emotions. Getting a new home, getting his cage cleaned, then being all excited probably gave him an adrenaline rush, then he go tired. He is ok, but if this type of behavior continues, I would take him to the vet for a check-up.
