Question
How do i bathe a black bear hamster.
I've bathed him in water and he fine but I'm not sure if its safe for him.
i have three other hamsters and i bathe them the same way.
can you please tell me if its safe.
Thanks.

Answer
Hi,
Submersing a hamster in water or even getting him very wet can be potentially fatal to a hamster. It should never be done, as they could easily die of chill, even if put in warm water in a warm environment. You very rarely need to clean your hamster, just give him a wipe with a damp cloth every few months.
I have a "Black Bear" hamster (a fancy name for a black Syrian hamster) and I've never washed or bathed him, as it can kill him. Groom them with a small pet brush to stop their fur getting matted, but don't put them in water.

Best wishes,
Kathryn
