My gerbil ate its leg

Hi, i just found my gerbil dead today it must have died thru the night just of old age, but its leg had been chewed up by the other one, is this normal? why did it do it?
and also...will the other gerbil be ok since its companion has died, any help would be great!! thanks!

Hello! So sorry to hear your other gerbil died. Gerbils, even though they can sometimes be put together, can still fight and kill another one for dominace. It's very common. It's normal for them to do this. After a while gerbils can start to fight until they kill another one. Your other gerbil will be fine by himself. He will live a long happy life. :-).
