Mouse Food

Question
We had a mouse put down yesterday (the mouse was old and having seizures) and we were wondering if we could mix some if it's food in with our dwarf hamster's food.  they are the same brand name, we would still offer the hamster it's own food, and I couldn't find anything dangerous for the dwarf hamster in the ingredients.  I thought I should ask an expert first before just jumping in and doing it.

Thanks for your time, Marla

Answer
Hi Marla

I'm sorry to hear about your mouse.

I should think it would be fine to give your hamster his food - I've given my hamsters guineapig food before in an emergency when I have run out!  The reason for the different types of foods for small animals is really because their requirements are slightly different and need different amounts of vitamins/minerals.  Dwarf hamsters, in particular, like seeds and therefore often their food is based on this - I don't know what is in the mouse food, but I am sure that you need not worry about using up the rest of the packet.  Hamsters are very choosy and if your hamster doesn't like it they will probably just leave it.
