Question
How long do gerbils spend in labour before they finally give birth? What should i do when my gerbil gives birth?

Answer
Dear Chantelle,
I sincerely apologize for my late reply. My computer wasn't working properly and my brother took my laptop while he was on vacation. What great luck, huh?
Anyway, I'm not sure how long gerbil labor is, but gerbils pregnancy is about a little less than a month.
During the last few days of gerbils pregnancy, remove the wheel and any other toys the pups could get lost in. If you own one of those Critter Trail cages then block off all the levels except for the one the nest is on.
Don't touch mom, the pups,  or the cage (besides feeding, which, should do as slyly as possible, as if you'll get in trouble if you get caught)until the pups are at least 2 weeks old. Yes, the cage will smell horrible. But I'm sure you would prefer a smelly cage over all of the pups being eaten (by the way, mom might still eat some of the pups anyway, even if you do everything perfect, especially if she's a first-time mom). Hang the water-bottle lower so the pups can reach it. When the pups start experimenting with hard food, you can put some soft fruits in and some shelled sunflower seeds in the cage.
Once again.sorry about the late response.
