gerbils nails to long

My gerbil is about 3 years old is it natural for him to stop shredding cardbord and things like that?his nails getting very long also is this related to that + what can i do about it?

some gerbils may get tired of shredding the same things. Have you tried giving him other treats. also is he eating and drinking normally and is al other activity normal? Generally you coud try to clip the nails yourself if you can manage to keep him still enough.
