Question
QUESTION: hi there! my baby hamster, who i brought home from the petshop a week ago, has developed this awful habit of peeing then quickly lying in it and rubbing his entire body of his pee!! he used to be all fluffy and didnt smell, but now his fur is always wet and he just constantly smells of pee! what can i do to change this behavior? i've tried adding wood shavings to the place where he pees alot to absorb the puddles but it doesnt seem to help absorb the smell. thanks in advance for the advice!

ANSWER: awww what a stinky hamster. :) Well, it seems like you will need to buy some small animal shampoo to clean your hamster since he likes to roll around in it. Also, a really good odor absorbant is soft-sorbent bedding or carefresh bedding. That's really good as it absorbs the pee and the smell. I love it.

QUESTION: a small animal shampoo?? i didnt know they made shampoo for hamsters.. wont he get stressed or freeze? do i towel dry afer of (dare i say) BLOWDRY??

Answer
yeah they make small animal shampoos. Check the small animal aisle to find them. What you can do is to fill a sink with some warm water. Then ather in the shampoo and wash the shampoo off really well. Then you should blowdry the hamster on the lowest setting away from a draft until the hamster is good and dry. :)
